FMS Bar and Restaurant, Ipoh.

Ipoh has always gave people an impression of relaxing, and slow paced life.

Before new year, AhKam brought me and Irene to an old restaurant, FMS Bar and Restaurant for a western dinner. When he said old, I didn’t know that he really meant it, until I saw the shop.

FMS Bar & Restaurant, 1906.

Wow, it’s really old. When looking from outside, who would know that this is a restaurant serving western food, at all.

The restaurant was built in year 1906, and it was operated until NOW! The restaurant is freaking 102 years old you notice?? Your grandparents might have heard about it LOL!

I love the cowboy door!!

The restaurant has no aircond, only installed with a lot of old fashioned fans by the wall, and also on the ceiling. By the way, look at that ceiling, I thought it was really authentic.

Please let me know if there’s anywhere else that is with this kind of ceiling.

One thing special about this shop is you don’t see any waitress with sexy uniform. In contrast, you see an old lady with those dark flowery clothes where your grandma would wear it at home with a pair of rubber shoes you can get in pasar malam for RM5 a pair digging her nose rubbing her toes serving you.

AhKam and Irene chatting in FMS.

As of our budget, there isn’t much choice for our dinner.

I picked lamb chop as my main meal, and AhKam and Irene had chicken. Our meal comes with a bowl of soup and a butter bun.

I had the tomato soup. It was slightly weird for the first mouth, but after few sip, the soup was awesome (basically the best item they had. Read on and you will know why I said so) especially when eating together with the bun.

Tomato soup.

Right after the soup, our main course came.

My lamb chop. Normal. Not bad, and not good either. The sauce was some kind of sweet & sour sauce, with some spiciness in it, where you can get it almost anywhere. Nothing special.

FMS lamb chop for me.

For ahKam and Irene’s chicken chop, it tasted abit overcooked as the meat is quite stiff. Not to mention, the sauce for the chicken is the same sauce for my lamb chop, how pathetic is that.

FMS chicken chop for them.

As usual, we got a dessert of the day for our set dinner. It was a fruit cocktail topped with their homemade corn icec ream. Not that I want to criticize, but if you can’t make a good ice cream, go and buy. The ice cream was basically too floury, and it couldn’t get harden.

When the ice cream was served, it’s has ran out of shape, and the ice cream acted like cream, melted as my spoon was nearing them. Probably it’s because the ice cream was afraid of my spoon. *lame*

Now you know why I love the tomato soup so much?

Anyway, I think that if FMS wants to continue survive for another 10 years, they seriously need to change their business plan.

  • the waitress auntie should be more friendly.
  • aircond should be installed because we live in Malaysia!
  • get a Haggen Dazz Ice cream.
  • use different sauce for different chops, please.

The only thing I like about the shop is the nice nice Teresa Tang song that was played throughout my dinner. It was pretty romantic.

Love this shot.

So, until someone force me to visit FMS, or FMS has improved, that’s my last visit for FMS. Heeehe.
